Mangal Ocakbasi Launch

Last week I was lucky to attend the Launch of the new Turkish restaurant, Mangal Ocakbasi in Shoreditch. I was brought along by fellow blogger friend Christine (xtineloves.com) and met other blogger friend Shante (shantesaysstyle.co.uk) there aswell.

Me and Christine dived straight in and went for happy hour cocktails when we sat down!

We were then told by one of the lovely waitresses that we would be treated to sample their starters, main courses and desserts.

For starters we had naan bread plus a selection of dips including Hummous, Ezme Salata, Cacik and Patucan Salata. It was lovely and was brought more bread on request. Each dip was unique but very delicious.

For mains, we had a selection of different kebab meat (chicken, ribs, beef) on platter. We could've been given a more generous portion however I can't really complain! Each piece of meat was cooked to perfection and not too burnt.

And lastly for dessert, we sampled some authentic Turkish delicacies which had a pistachio base. (I can't remember the exact name of it and it isn't on the menu on the website ahhh) They were tiny but really nice and not too sweet.

The whole range was very tasty and I would definitely go again.

With the nice atmosphere of the restaurant and friendly staff and not to mention flavoursome food, I would give this a 4/5.

You can visit the restaurant at:  62-68 Rivington Street, London, EC2A 3AY.

Thanks to Mangal Ocakbasi for having me!!! :)

China Trip 2015

From 3rd-15th October I was in China doing a charity trek for Coppafeel! and doing some sightseeing too.

The first week was spent with other likeminded people taking part in a charity trek raising money for breast cancer charity Coppafeel! The trek was along some rocky parts of The Great Wall of China, it was tough but the views were so worth it! Altogether our team of 23 have raised just over £65,000 and you can still donate here if you wish to: https://greatwallcoppafeel.everydayhero.com/uk/urikachiu

This post is going to be very picture heavy as I think they speak for themseleves and no words need to be shed! Just look at the amazing views!

During the second week, we visited the Terracotta Warriors, Pandas in Chengdu and the Tombs.
It was great to see so much of China is such a short space of time!

Again, here's a couple of pictures for you to have a look it!

Looking for a nice cocktail bar in Soho, London?

Out in Soho, London? Sick of heading to your local pub or Be At One?

Then check out these 3 cool and kooky bars that will make your Saturday nights a little more extravagant!

Soho Grind

Tucked away on Beak Street at the end of Carnaby Street, this little espresso bar has a cocktail area downstairs. The only downside is that they don't have a bar license (they have a restaurant license) meaning you will have to purchase some snacks. Prices start from £1 so it's not much if your looking for nibbles to accompany your drink. The menu is short and sweet, with drinks priced around £8-9. Although the place is quiet small and dark, it's the perfect setting for a date night.

Cahoots

Situated in an old disused underground station, they have kept this the theme, making it a vintage tube station style. Before reaching the doors to the bar, there's a vintage underground sign post pointing you to the direction of the bar. And a tube style line map to the right of it. A gentlemen roleplays, telling you to 'come in quick and tell no-one'. This bar is top secret after all.
With a range of unique cocktails, you're bound to find something you like, whilst sitting in a Bakerloo line style seating booth. The bar is open till 1/2am on weekdays and until 3am on Saturdays.

The Arts Theatre Club

Want to do some dancing? This is the place! Cocktails in teapots and good music? Win!
Located on Frith Street, it's easy to miss but when you do find it you will be going in for a good night! You can reserve a table if there's a group of you and there is a cloakroom too. This also has a vintage/old fashioned style too which I like. The staff are all really nice and friendly which makes it more enjoyable. Drinks don't come cheap but are lovely! Deffo recommend :)

The Scorch Trials Review! (No Spoilers)

Sooooo since seeing the first film of this amazing trilogy, The Maze Runner, (I also did a review of it which you can read here), I bought and read the books instantly and I loved them!

So you can imagine my excitement when the trailer for second installment, The Scorch Trials, came out! I went to see it in the cinema a few days after it was out.

Without giving too much away, prepare to be spooked with some jumpy and terrifying scenes. This film is following on from the gladers escaping the maze and being rescued by a team of protectors. But secrets soon unravel and the gladers are yet again found escaping and fighting for their lives in this epic movie.

Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) really shows off his talent in this film, along with Teresa (Kaya Scodelario) and Min Ho (Ki Hong Lee) who play the main roles in this film. Such raw talent for such young actors!

Having read the book and having something to relate it to, I am gutted the storylines didn't always follow through and some scenes were slashed. However, it was an amazing film and I would deffo see it again! It is 132 minutes long, but believe me, the time flew by and I wasn't wondering when it would finish or have a numb bum haha.

Have you seen it or read the books? What are your thoughts?

The Scorch Trials are in cinemas now!

The New Bring Me the Horizon

Bring Me The Horizon have been teasing fans with an umbrella and raindrop logo for the past few months, but no-one knew what it meant! It turns out, they were gearing fans up for their highly anticipated new album, 'That's The Spirit'.

When their first single from the album, 'Drown' was released, people were skeptical about the new sound and the change to a more 'mainstream' indie/pop rock band than their previously more heavy metal stuff. A short while after that, a second and third song was released, 'Happy Song' and 'Throne'. Fans were unhappy about this sudden change and started losing interest.

However, when the album was released a few weeks back, it has gained mass media attention and since then, they have gained more fans worldwide.'That's The Spirit' reached number 2 in the UK charts, number 1 in Australia, number 2 in New Zealand and number 3 in Sweden! So they must've been doing something right hey?!

Do you think they should've stuck with their metal roots or joined other bands in gaining a more mainstream sound and fanbase? What are your thoughts?

Lush x Vienne Westwood x War On Want

Who's into fashion, politics and cosmetics?

Lush Cosmetics has teamed up with Vivienne Westwood and War On Want to create a showder (shower powder!) to support groups fighting against TTIP! War On Want are a membership organisation of people who are committed to social justice.

A dirty deal is being negotiated in secret between the EU and the USA. This is TTIP, it stands for  Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. It is one of the most vibrant movements seen to date and we need to do something about it! Over 2.5 million people have signed the petition against TTIP. The talks began in 2013, so it has been going on for 2 years now, and the next few months are crucial as the EU and USA government are trying to rush through this deal! TTIP will cost the economy at least 1 million jobs and it will only benefit businesses; making them profits and not in the best interests of the main population!

Lush have come up with a product whereby all profits made from it, minus the VAT, will go to grassroot groups across Europe who are fighting back against TTIP. The box has been designed by Vivenne Westwood and Climate Revolution. The showder is made of rose and bergamot essential oils and is vegan. It is priced at £12.50 and are in all Lush shops worldwide now!

Go get it and say NO to TTIP!

To find out more information on TTIP or War On Want, you can visit: www.waronwant.org/ttip

New Lauren Aquilina music and tour!

20 year old Bristol born, Lauren Aquilina, has released her new single ‘Ocean’. The first song from her debut album!

With her first EP ‘Fools’ reaching the Top 50 iTunes singles charts in the first week on pre-orders alone, and the accompanying EP’s in her trilogy ‘Sinners’ and ‘Liars’ reaching mass interest and attraction; she soon signed to Universal Music Group as a new artist.
In 2013, she headlined Reading and Leeds Festival’s BBC Introducing stage, which gained her more fans and a larger reputation in the music world. She has also collaborated with Scottish band ‘Prides’ on their track ‘Strong Enough’. You can also hear Lauren singing on the new Downton Abbey advert.

So when ‘Oceans’ was first premiered, it was no surprise it reached 40,000 views in the first 24 hours.
You can hear the song and watch the video here:
Having been a fan of her since 2013, its so lovely to see a genuinely nice person doing so well in her career!

Look Magazine/American Eagle shopping event with Nina Nesbitt!

Hello beautiful people!

Last Thursday, I went down to Westfield Stratford in London for a shopping event at American Eagle in association with Look Magazine.

There was 20% off the whole night, free cereal and drinks from Cereal Killer Cafe, advice from Look Magazine's fashion stylists/writers and even an exclusive performance from Scottish born singer songwriter, Nina Nesbitt!

The event kicked off with free cereal and a chance to pick up some pieces for a discounted price (yes, I bought jeans obviously). Nina was on stage at about 7:15pm, a little later than scheduled but everything else made up for it!

She sang a couple of old tunes, 'The Apple Tree', 'Mr C' and 'Stay Out'. She made her own rendition of The Weeknd's 'Can't Feel My Face' which was amazing. She even debuted a new song called 'West End Weekend' which she announced will be on her second album out later this year!

We then queued up to meet her after her set and she was so sweet and lovely.

If you want to check out Nina's music you can go onto her website here:

Or if you would like to browse the American Eagle website, the link is here:

Jewellery Box

So last Saturday, I went to the annual #BloggersFestival organised by the lovely Scarlett!

One of the brands there was 'Jewellery Box'. They are a relatively new brand, launching in June 2014 and based in South London.

They have a huge range of jewellery ranging from personalised necklaces to adjustable rings. Their aim is to create an affordable jewellery brand for young girls, with killer pieces!  And I think they have done just that! I love the whole range, everything is so contemporary and edgy!

Most products range from about £5 to £30 (with some more expensive products and cheaper too!)

They also have jewellery in different metals; silver, gold, white gold and rose gold. So if you're looking for something a little more expensive looking then head to this section!

Jewellery Box is primarily an online jewellery website but are currently (from today!) popping up at Pop Up Brixton, London until the 20th September 2015. So if you're local to London, then pop along! :)

James Morrison at Wilton's Music Hall - 18/08/15

Last Tuesday I was lucky enough to have tickets to see James Morrison at Wilton's Music Hall in London.

I've been a fan of him since I was about 13, and it was definitely something on my bucket list to see him live one day. You can imagine my joy when I bought tickets and found out the venue is a 300 max capacity!!!

I went with my friend Nikol and we got there around 6ish. There was already a bunch of people queuing which wasn't surprising. We took a quick McDonald's stop (cheeky!) and joined the back of the queue.

The doors opened at 7pm and we were quickly let in. The venue is beautiful. It has recently been redecorated but still has that old, vintage feel to it which I love.

Charlie Straw was the opening act and he had a quick 30 minute set. He was amazing; a very powerful voice and some great tunes. You can check him out here: https://www.facebook.com/charliestrawmusic?fref=ts

Then it was onto the main man! We had a pretty good view so I was so excited!

He started with 'Under The Influence' and mixed it up with old and new songs, including 'Call The Police', 'You Give Me Something', 'Broken Strings'. Newbies included 'Once When I Was Little', 'Heaven To A Fool', 'Demons'.

Morrison clearly hasn't lost his charm, incredible voice and ability to write amazing music. Each song was perfect and I'm so excited for the new album!

He kept on thanking everyone for coming and told us how he was afraid his music had been forgotten and made jokes that people back in his hometown would mistake him for Chris Martin haha. He was genuinely so thankful for everyone that bought a ticket; what a lovely man!

His set finished at around 10pm and I left with a massive smile on my face and the 13 year old me buzzing inside!

He still has two more London shows to go, however they are both sold out :(

Let's hope his album is out soon and he goes on tour shortly after that!

Look how close we were!!! :D

Lush Cosmetics, Gorilla Perfume - Vanillary Review

Now this may be a biased post since I work for Lush but I'm loving this scent so much recently, I'm gonna do a post on it!

Just to give you a lil background info on Gorilla Perfumes...

Lush has a fragrance collection called Gorilla Perfume. There are 6 different ranges; Volume 1, Volume 2, Volume 3, Greatest Hits, Incense and B-Sides and Rarities. All of the perfumes are inspired by art, personal experiences, music and poetry. Each perfume is unique and has a meaning or story behind it. All ingredients are natural and uses essential oils.

Vanillary is in the Greatest Hits range. I love this scent, it has a sweet vanillary odour reminding me of vanilla ice cream! It contains Fair Trade vanilla absolute with tonka and jasmine to make it slightly floral smelling.
It is currently my go to perfume and it's perfect for everyday use.

It is priced at £14 for 10ml, £28 for 30ml, £56 for 100ml and also comes in a solid perfume format which costs £7 for 12g.

You can take a look at the other perfumes in the Gorilla Perfume range here: https://www.lush.co.uk/products/gorilla-perfume

There is also a whole shop dedicated to only selling Gorilla Perfumes, you can find it at:
 3 Camden Passage, London N1 8EA

Anyone tried a perfume from Gorilla Perfume?

George Ezra and Flo Morissey at Somerset House

On Monday me and a friend headed to Somerset House to see George Ezra and Flo Morissey for the summer series sessions.

Having finished work at 5 we met up at Temple station at 5:45 and got to the venue around 6.

We were one of the first there!! You can imagine my excitement as this meant there was a high chance of us being at the front!

The queuing system was a little confusing as there were two queues and no-one really know which one they were meant to be in. Turns out there were just two queues to make it quicker to get all of us in. However, I feel like this could have been made clearer by staff there at Somerset House.

Anyway once we were in the queue we had 1 and a half hour to wait. We heard them soundchecking so we already know what songs they would be singing in the evening!

Once 7:30 hit we were aloud in and I literally ran to the front haha (and got told to stop running by a security man oops lol) we got to the barrier!!! :)

Flo Morissey was on at 8 and not knowing what she looked nor sounded like I was pleasantly surprised. She was a very young girl with a powerful voice. She sang songs from her new album that has just come out. Definitely Google her if you can and check out her music.

Then it was time for George!! I was so excited to see him as I've been a fan for ages and this was my first time seeing him live. And being at the front made it even more special.

Dressed in a black tee and jeans. He keeps it so casual yet still seems to capture the attention of the crowd.
He starts off with Cassy O to get the crowd going. He sings lots of other songs from his number one album 'Wanted on Voyage'; Barcelona, Budapest, Leave It Off, Listen to The Man. And he also did his rendition of 'I'll Try', it was a cover he did at a Live Lounge performance months ago and it was so great to hear it live!

His set finished a little early at 10pm. However I was on cloud nine! Such a great evening listening to awesome music!

Has anyone ever been to a Somerset House summer series event before?! :)

Malta 2015

So I've realised it's been about 3 weeks since I went on holiday and I never wrote a blog post on it! So here it is!

Early May I went to Malta with my parents. We went for 5 days and it was a nice relaxing little break. I've been to Malta before in 2011 with my Duke Of  Edinburgh group and I loved it, so I was really excited to go back!

Valletta:
The capital of the country. This is where the main transport hub/links are. Welcomed with a lovely fountain and further on you will find the parade of shops. We saw the Royal Family's palace too! What I love about this country is that it is so small, wherever you go, you are never far from the sea and sand! We stopped at a lovely cafe for lunch and had pasta and fish and chips.

Valletta city centre
Main street!
Marsaxlokk:
My favourite town in Malta. Famous for it's fishing port and boat rides. I love the market stalls there and we bought some nougat and little souvenirs. We had a lovely seafood lunch, it was so cheap! You can walk around the harbour and see the beatiful blue sea! The scenery is so pretty too!

Beautful views
Seafood lunch
Bujjiba:
Another lovely little town, with lots of shops and restaurants. We had lunch with a view; I'll attach a picture below. It was so relaxing and lovely. There was a shop called 'Aladins Cave', filled with bric'a'brac and bits and bobs, I love how unique and traditional everything in this country is! It is also a short walk away from St Paul's Bay, where you will find another beach!
Lunch with a view!

Has anyone been to Malta before or planning to go?! :) x

Spy Love Buy Shoes

Hello,

Sorry I've been so quiet on here recently! I'm hoping to post  more often from now on!

The post today is going to be on SHOES!

And more specifically.... Spy Love Buy.

Spy Love Buy is an online fashion retailer focusing on affordable everyday shoes from high heels to sandals and they are very active on Instagram, probing customers to use the hashtag #spylovebuy to show off their buys!

I have two pairs of shoes from there now and they are really comfy and exceeds all expectations, I love them.

They ship internationally too!

You may think 'what's so unique about them?'... they use the same distributors as Public Desire and Koi Couture so you may have seen the same stuff floating about on those websites too.

I recently had a bad experience with Public Desire (one shoe was size 3 and the other a size 4!)
But their customer services were more than happy to have the shoes sent back to them free of charge plus a refund, so it wasn't all that bad! I know they had some problems with credit card fraud too, so if you do shop on Public Desire, think twice before doing so!

Here's a selection of the stuff SLB sell and the website link!
